Show me a Benjamin!

While having a few beers and sampling some delicious blackened red-snapper prepared Louisianian style at a tavern on Bui Vien yesterday, the conversation turned to the topic of the French participation in the American Revolution as well as an aside to a previous discussion I'd had at work about USD slang. I decided that the next day (today) I'd F5 my information about Benjamin Franklin, la Fayette and d'Estaing. Quite a lot to digest needless to say, but for me personally Franklin's 13 virtues hit home; especially during these times of uncertainty and chaos. Chaos CHAOS! General 'mad' Anthony Wayne 'tis my alma mater named after. Go Tatars! Oh wait...from wikipedia:

"A student poll selected the name of "Tartars" for the school's teams in 1927. In 1999, the university changed the name to the "Warriors," due to a feeling that the Tartar name was dated and that not many people knew what a Tartar was."

? of the day? What's a a Tatar?
opens the dictionary and reads:
Ta·tar (tätr)
n.
1. also Tar·tar (tärtr) A member of a group of Turkic peoples primarily inhabiting Tatarstan in west-central Russia and parts of Siberia and Central Asia.
2. Tartar Any of the Turkic languages of the Tatars.
3. Variant of Tartar.
4. tatar A ferocious or violent person; a tartar.

So if I've got this straight,
decided(1999) that the Tatar woman pictured below ----wasn't exactly best possible choice for the Athletic Department....

...and came to the conclusion that "WARRIORS!!!" would be a better a choice. It seems logical to me.A I mean wHAT THE HELL TOOK THEM SO0
o0 LONG TO REALIZE this??? After all, the movie Was released in 1979
. Geez...

The times they are a-changing.

Anyway, back to what I mentioned originally. What I took away from my brief tutorial was BF's 13.

The folks in Washington ought to F5 their own collective recollection of Franklin's thirteen virtues!

Here they are:
  1. "TEMPERANCE. Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation."
  2. "SILENCE. Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation."
  3. "ORDER. Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time."
  4. "RESOLUTION. Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve."
  5. "FRUGALITY. Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself; i.e., waste nothing."
  6. "INDUSTRY. Lose no time; be always employ'd in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions."
  7. "SINCERITY. Use no hurtful deceit; think innocently and justly, and, if you speak, speak accordingly."
  8. "JUSTICE. Wrong none by doing injuries, or omitting the benefits that are your duty."
  9. "MODERATION. Avoid extremes; forbear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve."
  10. "CLEANLINESS. Tolerate no uncleanliness in body, cloaths, or habitation."
  11. "TRANQUILLITY. Be not disturbed at trifles, or at accidents common or unavoidable."
  12. "CHASTITY. Rarely use venery but for health or offspring, never to dullness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another's peace or reputation."
  13. "HUMILITY. Imitate Jesus and Socrates ."

Thank you, Ben! R.I.P.
